When this car was put into production in 1918 it was done in the first factory to be specialized towards car production in Japan. This occured with the aid of the Osaka Arsenal. The car was remodeled in 1920 into a 1 ton truck to submit to the army. They were rejected. In 1924 they became registered in truck manufacturing but ended up dissolving the following year. In 1926 the company would merge with Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Company and form the Dat Jidosha Seizo Company. In 1931 the company sold its stock to Nissan Motor Co. allowing it to produce the new Datsun. The small car was created to avoid direct competition with the foriegn auto industry. This was agreat success and soon the company was setting its sights on expansion. In 1936 Nissan joined the Auto Industry Act and was given government aid. When war came, by order of the government, Nissan ceased passenger car production and instead focused on trucks, airplane engines and boats for the war effort. After the war Japan underwent a period of restructuring and foreign firms were contacted for assistance, companies such as Renault were brought in. General Headquarters (GHQ) gave Nissan the go-ahead to resume production but, because many of the facilities were under requisition by GHQ, along with shortages of supplies, production was slow. In 1952 Nissan paired with Austin Motors of England to import parts in return for royalties. In 1958, after surveying the American market, cars started being exported to the US. The following year the Datsun Bluebird was announced and quickly became the largest selling model in the market. The 1960’s saw Nissan growing throughout America and spreading to Mexico and Peru. The 70’s, however, was the time of an oil crisis and the Japanese auto market began to slump. After a recovering through the 80’s the 90’s hit the Japanese economy hard. Divesting itself of nonessentials Nissan was faced with bankruptcy if it weren’t for the support of the Industrial Bank of Japan saw it through. The saving grace for Nissan turned out to be Renault, a French firm. Forming a partnership with them Nissan gained Carlos Ghosn as a CEO. With capital support Nissan pulled out of its debt and pulled into its place as 7th largest auto manufacturer of the world. Today Nissan holds 605,813 million yen in paid-in capital. | ||
